The first thing you want to use to generate your traffic is social media.  Social media is rapidly expanding and can give you what you truly want extremely fast.  You do not need to sit around and wait for people to give it to you.  All you need to do is submit your articles or site to Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Sphinn or other social media sites.  Then people will decided whether or not they like your content and give you traffic if you do.  This traffic usually is pretty targeted, but in some cases will not work quite as well as other traffic, so make sure you know what you are doing.

Another method of generating traffic to your site is to write articles.  While you may be already writing articles this method requires a little bit more work.  This is because you will be submitting these articles to article directories.  These directories will be sites such as Go Articles dot com or Ezine Articles.  They are known for being good sources of information.  People will often visit these sites to look for the answer to their problems.  If you are able to give them the answer to their problem, they may visit your site and give you additional traffic.

Yet another great way of free traffic is through traffic exchanges.  This is all depends upon the goal for your website.  Some websites do quite well with traffic exchange traffic, other sites have a horrible time with it.  Depending upon your goal, manual traffic exchanges typically pay attention to your site.  Sometimes you can get more sales, other times it will not work out.  You need to do your own research, and make sure you know your niche to see if you get any results.

Make sure to do your research.  Know what you are doing and do it as fast as possible.  The more work you do, the better off your traffic and site will be!

Paid traffic may not be worth the trouble because it costs money.  There is no 100% guarantee that your traffic will make its money back.  Instead, you need to work hard to ensure you can pay for your traffic by writing all of the content, and then promoting it yourself.  Free traffic requires you to do much less.  You can afford to outsource the writing if you wish, or keep writing if you want.  Free traffic also takes more time to arrive, depending upon the origin source.

Whatever you choose, free or paid traffic, make sure you know what you are getting into.  There are some sources of paid traffic that will work out for you, others will not.  However, with enough research you will be able to take advantage of free traffic and make it work.  The harder you work at free traffic, the more you should be able to gain.  Do not think about paid traffic if you cannot afford it, spend your hard earned cash on free traffic that will back out for months to come!
